Inspired by the cafe culture of Jonker Street, we’ve designed this chair making class as a comprehensive class covering the fundamentals of joinery and upholstery. This intermediate level project is perfect for those who have tried their hands on their first piece of furniture already and would like to take on something more complete and stylish. The introduction of curved seats gives students a chance to try slightly more refined upholstery.
This furniture making class covers the following topics:
- Mortise and tenon joinery.
- Sliding dovetail joinery
- Angled joinery.
- Wood carving.
- Blind stitching upholstery.
- Use of bandsaw, sanders, mortiser and tenoner machines.
- Basic hand tools use for adjustment of joinery.
- Hand rubbed oil finish!
This chair should fit inside large family cars but it is slightly on the large side. We recommend booking a delivery service for bringing this home!
Price include all wood and materials. Feel free to bring your own cushion fabric measuring at least 1mx1.4m, and must be off a heavy gauge suitable for upholstery.
