The Malacca Chair is a comprehensive introduction to fine furniture making covering hand cut joinery and upholstery.
The class will include 8 full guided weekly lessons with all tools and materials provided.
Do consider our single day projects to warm up first before starting this project. This project is done completely from scratch, so you will have to execute all the joinery, sculpting work and upholstery on your own.
This furniture making class covers the following topics:
- Mortise and tenon joinery.
- Dovetail tenon joinery
- Angled joinery.
- Wood carving.
- Blind stitching upholstery.
- Hand rubbed oil finish!
This chair should fit inside large family cars but it is slightly on the large side. We recommend booking a delivery service for bringing this home!
Price include all wood and materials. Feel free to bring your own cushion fabric measuring at least 1mx3m, and must be off a heavy gauge suitable for upholstery. We recommend you buy the fabric after day 1 of the class.

- 21 November 2026 – Leveling and Tuning of Fit
- 28 November 2026 – Final Fit and Finish
Included in the package is 2×3 hours of workshop rental time each week to finish your project.
