Kadut Chair Making Class


The Kadut Chair is a contemporary interpretation of a classic mortise and tenon chair, coupled hand sculpted arms and upholstered seats. The class will cover the cutting of open tenons that are double-wedged. The seat is produced by bent lamination then upholstered with a high density foam and suede fabric. It’s the perfect introduction to chair making for beginners with detailed instruction from start to finish.

The class is taught in a 3 hour + 3 hour format each week, 3 hours of focused class time and 3 hours of free-and-easy joinery practice. The schedule is flexible and you can come back to complete your work anytime throughout the week from Tuesday to Sunday.

Time Commitment

36 hours over 5 weeks., Additional 5-10 hours for refinement depending on each student's ability.

Project Coverage

60 days unlimited usage to complete the project.

Students need to be 16 years and older to attend unsupervised.

Class Schedule

Week 1 – Mortise and Tenon Joinery

Week 2 – Angled Mortises

Week 3 – Backrest and Arm Joinery And Sculpting

Week 4 –  Final Sculpting and Glue Up

Week 5 – Upholstery and Finishing
